Where, o' where, is my Samsung i600
I've been waiting for nearly a year
First they say it's a go!
Then someone says it's a NO!
ARGH! Let me make one thing perfectly clear...

I WANT MY Samsung i600! Come on Verizon, let's get the show on the road so I can ditch Sprint PCS and my ole TimePort once and for all!

P.S. - Oh Sprint? If you launch first, I'll stay.

Now I feel a little better.

P.P.S - Jason, congratulations on the launch of another excellent site! Maybe the i600 (if it's not fiction) is worthy of it's own forum?

FWIW...I had all but given up on the i600. That is until suddenly it re-appeared at Microsoft's Tech-Ed conf (http://www.pocketpcpassion.com/images/03Jun/pic0012.jpg Photo taken with the i700) last month! That combined with the buzz from some Verizon employees on various forums saying that the i600 is on a release trajectory has me excited once again!

PhoneScoop.com also changed their i600 page to reflect a July 2003 "planned availability". http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?id=186

Throw in a dash of Smartphone Thoughts 'soft launching'...and you get me all fired up!!! = ]

Yeah, I've seen all of that and have been all over the 'net on various other sites and UseNet groups trying to get some more dirt.

I no longer believe July is possible for Verizon. The retail guys still haven't heard squat about it ("sure you don't mean the i700?") and many of them have already been to PTT training (which also has yet to launch), so my gut tells me it will be quite some time before launch. I hope I am way wrong.

LOL - great little poem there. It's definitely coming but there's no news on when yet. I played with it at Tech Ed and am really excited about this device.

We set up a forum for each device that's available for purchase... Samsung will get theirs when they put a device on the market 8)

We'll see! :D If it isn't this month...I am hoping that we'll get some information at Verizon's 2Q earnings call. Sometimes they discuss future products/initiatives.

It is on the 29th: http://investor.verizon.com/.

Where's the Asus one?

I hope it isn't that far away...

Who actually believes the July 2003 "tentative" date as suggested on phonescoop.com?

Not me, considering the Verizon retail folks still have no clue and no training on the product - never even heard of it. I suspect they are neck deep preparing for PTT launch. Maybe next month?

Does anyone have any facts? Or those under NDA, can you share anything?

Whatever the reasoning for the delay...I hope this means we'll see a WM for Smartphone 2003 on this device!!

It would look a bit silly for Verizon to be lauching a 2002 device while AT&T and perhaps TMUS putting out HTC 2003 devices. =/

Samsung is now officially "manufacturing":

I think that is as good a word I need as any. (besides the launch date!) ;-) No longer is it just a potential product!

I remember when the Audiovox Thera came out under Verizon. That's another device I only had for a few days. (If you ever used a Thera, you know why!)

But the people in the Verizon Store didn't know anything about it until almost the day they got it. If I remember correctly...I would call and call to see if it was available yet. No one knew what I was talking about or blatently made up an answer. Then I went in on a friday when online sources said it would be available and they had just received them...but they couldn't sell me one until the following Monday so they could all be trained on how to use and program them.

So...store and phone CSRs sometimes, many times, most times...may not know squat until it's almost release date! Let's hope that's the case here!

Been there for a while I'm afraid. And that doesn't necessarily mean the i600, though I would assume that is the model. All it says is:

"The following companies have announced support for Smartphone:"

So, Samsung has announced support for Smartphone. We've known that since last August, though I guess this makes it "official", for whatever that's the worth.

I agree with you, give me a launch date, PLEASE!

What I need, since I am in a no-GSM coverage area, is the I-600 with Verizon and for Verizon to finish hooking up their SMS inter-carrier messaging feature. I've been jumping all over Verizon and InphoMatch to make this happen, and this will at least give me some functionality, but not to the level of a true GSM-capable, full-featured SMS Smartphone.

FWIW...I stopped by a local VZW store near work this afternoon. I asked the Owner for an update on the i600 from Samsung. He said late August.

:?

We shall see. :) That is the first time he gave me a date range...he always kept saying that it has been delayed.
