I have to confess ... I am going to try the 'force the update' method on WPCentral when I get home tonight ...

Go for it. I did it for my phone and my wife's phone. Both of us run the HTC Arrive on Sprint.
It worked great. But keep in mind that you may have to turn off the WiFi on your phone too. Turning it off on my Notebook alone didn't work, but once I turned it off, and left it off, on the phone, the upgrade trick worked great.

Thanks for that reminder - I saw that in the comments at WPCentral last night. I have a US Cellular HTC 7 Pro, and have pretty much abandoned it recently - even my kids (!) have little interest in it ... hopefully this revitalizes things!

Bah, force update not working for me. Getting an error.

Timing is very touchy - 'up to date' means turning off wireless too late, error code means too early ... it took me about 15 times, but it finally worked.

The error is in doing the update. I'll get to step 6 and an error comes up.

I saw some mention of that on that site ... did you ever resolve it?
Mine finished the 'first' update (was already at NoDo) and was just sitting there, but the phone had recognized Mango as available suddenly, so I went forward and it all went great.

Argh I'm just mad now. Phone update is a train wreck of problems.

Tried for about an hour, but couldn't get the 'force push' thingee to work for me. I did see some strange behaviour tho...
Even when my laptop was NOT connected to the internet (wireless and cable pulled) I was still getting 'Your phone is up to date'. When I put the phone into 'airplane mode', I then starting getting 'Can't get to update services' error message -- even tho the laptop was fully connected to the internet!
Hmmmm, looks like there may be some sort of 'interplay' between the phone's cellular data capability in the former case, and a need to have the phone connected to the cellular network in the latter.
In any case, I'll keep trying, but I suspect I'll just have to be patient. Yuk...

I finally got mine to work, by using another computer. My desktop doesn't seem to like the phone very much.
I've run into another issue though: I can't seem to get the integrated Windows Live Messenger service to show up, let alone work. Is it because my WLM account is not the primary Live account?

Bah, I was right. From http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1147892
"Mango automatically made my Windows Live account that my phone is registered under, which is also my Messenger account, work. Others have noted that it's not possible to have a second Messenger account -- only your PRIMARY Windows Live account is linked to Messenger."

I did the forced update on my HTC 7 Pro (unbranded) and it took some effort to get the initial update available, but as previous posters already said, it is all a question of timing...
I love the new functionality. I was already in love with the interface, but the multitasking and all the other 499 updates should offer new possibilities. Worth making the effort.
All in all update time was about 45 minutes (guesstimate, didn't time it)
Problem might be available disk space. I needed to work with my old laptop, needed to free 600 Mb.... I know, this is ancient hard ware. Probability for most of you is close to zero ;-)
The only thing I miss as a former WM6.x user is the today screen.... Don't know why that was such a success for me. Design of new WP7 is gorgeous, and it is a great concept and easy to access. But man, iPhone had the same limitations, but iOS5 gets the today screen gimmick, which is interesting. But we'll see. For now, happy camper!

There was a story on Engadget that half of WP got this update already. I am on AT&T and nothing! It looks more and more like another carrier scam. Last time AT&T was "testing" new software update, this time it delivers Mango "in bursts", according to tech support rep. I wander, if anyone got this " burst" yet? Anybody? Hello?

My AT&T Focus is updated, though I did use the network removal cheat. As much luck as I typically have with this sort of thing, I can't be sure if it just coincided with actual availability. The point though is AT&T update is past testing, since it wouldn't be on the MS servers for any distribution if it wasn't. It's unfortunate that rollout specifics are as mysterious as airline fare fluctuations. I expect to be able to download iOS 5 for my iPhone, on the 12th, when they said it would be available.

I'm on an AT&T phone (although connected to the Rogers network) and nothing through the normal channels yet. I've tried the 'force' method a number of times on a number of desktops, etc. with no success. I suspect because I'm already @ 7392, the force method might not work.
I'm trying to be patient, but according to MS' schedule, AT&T should be rolling out everyone now -- it's not in 'testing' as it was with the NoDo update. Just not sure what 'bursts' mean.

I was at 7392 when I got it to work, so there is hope. I just used the desktop interface in adapters to disable the ethernet on the PC. Some folks actually pull the cord. Couple of points. You do need to make sure the phone is in filght mode (certainly o WiFi connection) or it will establish a bypass connection, and you need to close and restart Zune between attempts. The latter is because it seems it caches it's findings and needs to restart to start fresh.
If you get it to say 'there is an update', contain your excitment long enough to turn your network adapter back on before hitting UPGRADE. If you don't, it will say, can't connect, try again later. That means it will check for you again later and you will have to trick it again. How do I know this? Guess ;)
With the rollout being advertised as going on, it is probably a waste of time to try to force it at this point. Unles you have a lot of time to waste and are patient. It is a frustrating process.

Well, here we are on the 13th of October, and still no Mango update. Sheesh... I know guys who are on Bell/Telus who got it the first day! Wonder if this is AT&T being sticky or MS finding some problem they want to address and are not telling anyone.

I have HTC HD7 and using in T-mobile prepaid. I still haven't got any update notification yet. I check at least 5 times in a day and it says your phone is up to date. Has Mango update not yet pushed in for HTC HD7 or is it because i am using prepaid. I connect my phone with Wi-fi in home.
I would appreciate if any one can enlighten on this.

I finally got my Mango! Official, without any back door excursuses. There were not any notifications on my HTC Surround, but I just plug it in to my PC connected to Zune, and what do you know? Zune shows a message that there's update available for my phone. It took about 30 min. But it worth it, Mango is great, although I concern that Multitasking is not what windows mobile users are use to. Once you open a new app., previous one get suspended, it doesn't run on the background, but that visual effect of looking at the cards is of course nice.

@jazboy1 Well I can tell you my developer HTC HD7 got the update from MS, pretty early. This was phone I had a full T-Mobile plan on initially. I cancelled that plan and threw a PAYG SIM in it, and then later got it developer unlocked to run the beta. When the RTM rolled out, it appeared the developer loads were getting them early. I have to believe this is a stock T-Mobile build, as I can't see them updating the developer devices to some odd-ball load. It is also T-Mobile because the device hardware knows what it is. That was made clear bak in the early update round. A T-Mobile 'branded' phone with an AT&T SIM would get updates on T-Mobile's cycle, because that is what it is. Still says T-Mobile when it boots.
So, best I can tell you, T-Mobile's update is generally available, and what sort of SIM is irrelevent. You actually don't need a working SIM at all, though I would expect you need to cable the phone to help the checking for updates work. Probably work over WiFi, but who knows.
