Yes, Microsoft is trying to have it both ways with its next-gen OS, which is expected to launch sometime in 2012. Although it has a whole new touch-friendly interface and will run shiny new full-screen apps, Windows 8 will also be compatible with all the desktop programs PC users like to run. Time will tell if Microsoft is biting off more than it can chew with this strategy, but right now I'm more interested in what the company just previewed. Here's what I think Windows 8 does well and where it needs improvement."</em></p><p><img src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/wpt/auto/1307585408.usr110171.jpg" style="border: 0;" /></p><p>There certainly has been lots of commentary on the previews we have seen on Windows 8. Over at the LAPTOP website Mark Spoonauer has written an article detailing his likes (live tiles, for example) and dislikes (hidden Start button, for one). Personally, I like what I have seen so far, and I think Mark's "dislikes" are pretty fair. Hit the Read link and read his critique.</p>

Based on the little we know so far about W8 I like it a lot.

There are two things that concern me though:

Will it be possible to tilt the screen with all the live titles or will it be locked in "Landscape" mode as WP7?

I use "Real" Tablets since they launched in 2002 and be able to use the computer in the "Portrait" mode is very important, at least for me.

My second concern is what will happen with "Ink" capabilities; since it was launched this input method has improved tremendously but with all this emphasys on "Touch" I am worrying that it could be abandoned and this would be a terrible mistake.

Time will tell but I really hope that MS will address these issues sooner than later.
