My own GH1 as auto-gain which cannot be turned off, and you can imagine how annoying it can be. So is using the iPhone a case of replacing a mediocre solution with another? Surprisingly, despite the poor quality of the iPhone's microphone (the author admits as much) the ability to move it off-camera does bring quite a few benefits, namely, no camera operation noise.
