I could see some use for people with larger laptops, however, for those with netbooks or ultra-lights, I think most people would be just as good using it on their lap for most situations. I have been in some situations where it could be useful, like being at a friend's house where they have little surface space (they have kids) but I don't know if that happens often enough for me to really choose this bag over other options.

The obvious place for this is waiting in an airport gate area. You can spend hours there with no good way to utilize your computer other then propped uncomfortably on your lap. Back in my travelling consultant days, I'd have spend the money to get one of these for those long waits in airports without lounges. Definitely. I probably wasted five potentially billable hours per week in gate areas. In fact, it may even have allowed me to leave the client site a little earlier each week, which would have been a godsend.

6 pounds empty. I was afraid of that. I like the idea, but to make it practical is probably going to be too expensive.

Yeah, well, when I was a consultant, the laptop itself weighed 9+ pounds (I usually opted for the light ones) without the power brick, network cables, mouse, etc. I also had a beast of a Targus bag that must have weighed 5 pounds with no legs. Probably 4 inches of padding to protect that $3500+ laptop. So, to me this still sounds reasonable quite reasonable. :)
