So even though this particular service is gone, they are still providing personal service. The philosophy at the retail stores changed a bit, so that now they don't believe there is a need for the one-on-one by appointment, because every customer deserves to have the personal service. Now all customers will get as much personal attention as they need to get the information they want, with no obligation to buy. I like the new philosophy, what are your thoughts?</p>

I'm not sure that this represents a significant departure from the way things operate in Apple stores. Customers can still get personalized service and attention and even the biggest n00b can still get answers to any and all questions about Apple products. It's just that scheduling a special one-on-one consultation isn't available any more. In fact, I'd be interested in knowing just how often such appointments were previously made; I'd bet they were pretty rare.
