Considering that among the artificial limitation MS set for the device there is the lack of removable storage the biggest question is: how many GB will be available for data?

Currently the rumor is that this device will have the typical 1Ghz processor and 8gb of memory. Most people I have spoken with find this an unacceptable amount. I know the shift right now is to cloud storage and streaming, but 8gb! HTC can do better than that in my opinion. We'll have to wait and see when the phone is officially announced.

That is what I heard too. Personally I do not care for this "Cloud" frenziness; if I want to play music or browse my pictures I want them ready on my device. Besides personal preferences 8GB is ridiculous; a top of the line phone should have at least 16GB of memory.

Not surprised at the specs, I never doubted that HTC would skimp where they could. Who wants to bet the next version ups the storage to 16 and the camera to 8mpx?

The lack of external storage is just one of the things that make WM7 look like a huge step backwards to me. Seriously, when was the last time you wanted LESS storage space on any Windows device?

Now Apple has created a solid operating system and hardware that operate very well with these limitations, and they have been doing it for years. Microsoft - not so much. Case in point - MSoft's App store, which ate 4 Apps shortly after I purchased them, and now won't let me download them. It's been 2 months since MSoft 'elevated' the issue to their "Sr. Specialists" who promptly did nothing and don't respond to my emails. When you look at the amoount of traffic the MSoft App store has compared to Apple's, there is no way they should be too busy to serve their Customers. But then again, MSoft doesn't really look at us as Customers, the phone companies are their Customers, and this is one reason I don't believe they will make the new OS a real success.

And everytime I look at the WM7 home screens, I want to cringe. They can't hold a candle to my current home screen in my HD2, which I had to IMPORT from Oz since AT&T didn't want this gem competing with, and beating hands down, the iPhone. thanks to HTC and CooCkie, I have the time, weather, call and phone status, my daily & weekly agenda, plus immediate shortcuts to my top 5 Apps, Top 5 Contacts, and more, plus one swipe access to 59 more! All against a lovely backdrop of my own choosing.

WM7 gives me what? Seven white on blue Icons - a link to XBox Live? Whahoo! But we dropped line-drawing icons years ago, and I don't care about XBox - I work for a living. I'll probably keep my HD2 as long as possible, and not consider moving to 7. When I feel obliged to move to a locked-down system, I will likely go with the more mature kid on the block - once they boost their display size that is.

Oh, and a note to MSoft, unless you get Google to offer seamless and fully functional support for WM, it faces a lot of negative pressure. I'm the only one at my own Company who uses WM, and everyone else has a much easier and better experience with their iPhones and Androids, syncing to our company mail, contacts and Calenders via Google Apps. If WM7 is supposed to be more 'fun' and approachable for a casual user than WM6, making it get along better with the non-MSoft world is going to be essential. Kind of like - Cut and Paste

My understanding is that a SD slot for memory expansion is possible with WinPhone 7 - just not as a removable media but more sort of a memory expansion slot burried below the battery.

If there is a MicroSD memory expansion slot I think 8GB of built-in memory are just fine for a start so that users who don't need more don't have to pay for useless memory and I just buy myself a 32GB memory card for my music.

While I always liked the idea to plug in the SD card from my digital camera into my WinMo phone I must admid that I didn't do it very often. What really is important to me is that I can add memory beyond the dafault storage (one of the things that always kept me away from iPhone)

Thing is you cant change the card yourself, so there is no benefit of going with a lower capacity card. You are stuck with it unless you crack into the case and void your warranty. Great strategy by MS!!

 Oh Lord! Do any of these people actually live with a WM phone? Do they troll the Help boards her or at XDA? Personally I have had about a dozen or more memory cards in my various WM Phones, and 4 have failed in the phone after many months of use. Irritating enough to have to buy a new one and rebuild the phone, but seriously, turning this into a Warrantee repair is going to lead to WM7 phones getting a reputation for early failures.

This is what I mean - all along the way, MS keeps making the wrong decisions, ones that can only be explained by their lack of focus on the phone users as Customers. I'm sure the Cell Carriers are drooling at the opportunity to overcharge for onboard memory like Apple does, but this is a step backwards for WM USERS.

Note to MSoft, the Phone USERS are the ones who will decide what phone and operating system they buy, not AT&T etc. Make the USERS happy and the Carriers will follow. It doesn't work the other way around.

I've now come to the conclusion that the average person is either not very smart, or just damn lazy; they want less options, and think less about their personal tech.
