So much free content to view and listen to while you're driving or commuting or relaxing or working. But what's that? You say you never can do that because you forget to hook up your Apple (or other) device to the computer to download new podcasts? You say you wonder why you have a device with an always-on data connection that can't just download them itself? Well you're saying you want to check out BeyondPod. It not only lets you listen to podcasts, it'll actually download them on a regular schedule. I set mine to download at night, and wake up each morning with new things to listen to. A free version is available, however to get the most you need to go pro (what else is new), which is reasonably priced at around $7. The interface to add a feed is a little funky, but once feeds are set up it's set-and-forget time. Quite handy when you can't be bothered to plug in your device to a computer regularly!</p>

I'm curious to see if you've compared BeyondPod to the free Listen app from Google? I've been using Listen for a while now and it's a pretty good pod catcher. However on occasion it seems not to find a podcast I've subscribed to. However the price is sure right.

ahhh. I just got on the Android wagon and first thing I bought was Doggcatcher. Just checked out Listen and it would have satisfied my requirements - for $7 bucks less. oh well, thanks for the tip!

I tried Listen but found it didn't always auto-update as it was scheduled to. That was the killer thing for me - I couldn't be finding out moments before boarding a train with spotty service that my podcast hadn't downloaded. I also didn't like it integrating into GReader (Rather, I wish it was toggle-able) as I use Reader for work here at Thoughts, and the subscriptions got in the way!

I tried a trial version of BeyondPod back when I was only looking for an RSS reader. I prefer to keep those things seperate for some reason.

I ended up using NewRob for my RSS needs and like. Then when I circled around for Podcasts again, I completely forgot about BeyondPod.

I'm currently using DoggCatcher. I'm really trying to consolidate the gadgets that I carry on the Metro with me. But I really prefer my Zune's interface.

Of course if my Zune services were just available on my Nexus One, I'd probably leave my Zune at home.
