Default Exchange Sync - something like 'Touchdown' for Android?

Hi all:

I just got my (Verizon) HTC Touch Pro 2 ... long time WinCE user, new to smartphones in general. Tried out the Droid for a couple of weeks, liked it mostly but the keyboard was awful.

So I want to sync to my work email, and while I can access webmail, the company is tight with the Exchange ActiveSync and won't enable it.

I can access the Webmail, and on the Droid there was an app called TouchDown that seems like it exploited that interface to handle the sync process.

When I try to set up on my TP2 I get through to the end but syncing gives me a 'no permission' error. I'm wondering if there is a similar way to get around this stuff?
