Default Apple's Educational iMac

<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.zdnet.com/blog/apple/apples-stripped-down-999-educational-imac/10784?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+zdnet/Apple+(ZDNet+The+Apple+Core)' target='_blank'>http://www.zdnet.com/blog/apple/app...The+Apple+Core)</a><br /><br /></div><p><em>"Apple quietly launched a lower-price 21-inch iMac on its Apple Store for Higher Education - seemingly in time to capture some of the lucrative back-to-school market. My question: Does anyone still buy desktop computers for students going to college?"</em></p><p><img height="213" src="http://images.thoughtsmedia.com/resizer/thumbs/size/600/at/auto/1312830395.usr105634.jpg" style="margin-left: 100px; margin-right: 100px;" width="400" /></p><p>I'd say no. These days I can't imagine students wanting anything other than a laptop. And this is a scaled down version so for $200.00 USD you can get a much better machine. Faster CPU, double hard drive space, double RAM and double the video RAM. I'd spend the extra $200.00 USD to get that much more capability, wouldn't you?&nbsp;</p>

You're looking at it the wrong way...

Pricing this Mac under $1k is strictly for the school's purchasing departments. If you are slotted $20k to upgrade the computer lab, voila, you can now fill it with 20 Macs.

Schools are tax exempt, so the only issue is whether or not Apple ships the computer free.

Yes, as an individual student or teacher, paying a little more for better specs should be reasonable, but buying electronics for schools have nothing to do with reason
