Default Off-Topic: What was the original flavor of Doritos?

Help me settle a bet: what was the original flavor of Doritos? And which came first, Nacho Cheese flavored or Taco flavored? This site gets the best and brightest visitors, so I'm confident someone out there knows the answer. (Already checked Doritos.com and Google, to no avail.)

Ditto - Nacho Cheese. Taco? Not back in my days... Cool Ranch was the 2nd flavor I encountered, and it's been my favorite for many years.

Cool Ranch is my husband's favorite. Unfortunately, a few years ago, they decided Cool Ranch wasn't eXtreme enough, and they made COOLER ranch. Which don't taste quite as good.

He says he remembers that Taco is actually an old flavor (perhaps I ignored it because I thought it was gross?). Maybe I'm confused because the rebranding to Taco Bell Taco Supreme flavor happened in recentish memory.

BTW - I found this funny link:

Hmm. I'm pretty sure I didn't see Taco anywhere 10 years ago. Weird. Was it a non-Northeastern thing again? (like jinxes getting you a coke...)

Hmm, maybe we're wrong, Kati: I tried a quick Google search. Here's one of the results. That site, btw, is "taquitos.net", apparently a blog on you-know-what. On the other hand, there's this link. Oh, wait, this link seems to be the best so far. Gotta love Google...

I was wrong.

It is Taco.

Taco is either 1966 or 1967.

Nacho Cheese is 1972.

Perhaps it's gone in and out? During my chip-eating lifetime, Taco has not been the most obvious flavor.

Heh. Oh well, it seems part of the confusion stems from their "reintroduction" of a Taco flavor in the 70s... I see references to the original "plain" flavor.

Geez, we have no life :P

I wasn't around in the sixties, but I remember the 70's. My favorite flavor was sour cream and onion. This was way before cool ranch, and IMHO far better tasting. They would come in a green bag and the seasoning on them was very similar to some of the extreme choices they have today. I haven't been much of a dorito eater since they quit making sour cream and onion.

I have never heard of taco flavored Doritos. I only knew of Nacho and Cool Ranch before they did the "Extreme" flavors. My favorite flavor is Cool Ranch. I'm not a big fan of their new "Extream" line.
