You can either learn XML and code a homescreen yourself, or just find and download anyone of the many free and cool home screens that are already available. The home screen is very powerful and customizable.

As for putting 4 or 5 of your most used programs on the home screem why? just add them to the speed dial. Check out this article for more information: http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/ar...on=expand,5880

The categories come from what you have setup and are using in Outlook. When you sync the phone it takes the contacts and their category. I use the category setting in Outlook, but not on my phone. Have you seen SmartDial? It's built into the phone and makes finding and dialing a contact really simple. Especially if you have a lot of contacts. From the home screen, just start spelling out the name or number of a contact on your phone. Press the buttons in a T9 fashion - one push per key regardless if it's not the letter you need. So to find "Mike" I would press 6453 and the phone will filter the results to only the contacts that match what you entered.
