Default Pogoplug Mobile Offers Anywhere-You-Go Streaming

http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/2011/09...ablet-a-breeze/

"Looking for a drop-dead simple solution for streaming media (photos, music, video) and accessing files from home on your smartphone or tablet? Or how about backing up your smartphone's recently taken photos and video? Well, Pogoplug's new $79 Pogoplug Mobile product offers to do just that."

There's definitely something very appealing about having access to all of your music, videos, and photos anywhere you go. I've solve this by by uploading every photo I've ever taken to Smugmug, every song I have to Amazon's Cloud Drive, and videos...well, I don't have a good solution for that yet. I can access them remotely via my Windows Home Server, but only when that works (the last time it didn't). This is rather appealing, especially given the $79 price point. What solution do you use for everywhere-you-go media access?

What do all of the iCloud, Cloud Drive, GoogleMusic, etc, users do when there is no internet access? No WiFi? When they are in a skyscraper that doesnt allow for good 3G reception? In a school that blocks phone service? In a dead zone? On an airplane????

For many any of these may be the case. For others..almost never. And I say ALMOST because something will drop out ONE DAY.

But I'd hate to RELY on Cloud services for all of those reasons.

For my photos? I have all my photos on all my computers, including my laptop. Not on my iPad though...not enough storage space. So I have a Smugmug app that allows me to access all those images...but only if I have WiFi. When they have 128 GB iPads, I'll put all my photos on there.

For my music? I fill up my Zune HD (16 GB) with as much music as I can - but I have about 100 GB of music so it's only just a small selection. On my Zune 120 has all my music...every other mobile device has a selection.

Unless you have a tiny collection of photos and music, cloud services are basically the only way you can access everything you have while mobile - but of course it requires Internet access. What's the alternative exactly? I suppose you could put 400 GB SSDs in your laptops and only buy the most expensive tablet/mp3 player, but even then it might not be enough...

This whole "cloud" push is going somewhere bad...I can feel it!
