I had no problem reading ebooks on a Samsung i730. You see less of a page but you can still adjust the font to your liking in MS Reader. Mostly I read stories online though with PIE.

I think it has more to do with cost than size....

I think it has more to do with cost than size. Leaving out a touchscreen saves big on the overall cost of a phone. Those savings are passed on the consumers through there providers.
