Default Nokia Stars in Full Length Mobile Movie Rip-Off

http://www.revolutionmagazine.com/News/index.cfm?fuseaction=ViewNewsArticle&newsID=473185

"Modern cult classic 'The Shawshank Redemption', which stars Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, is to become the first full-length movie to be available for download by mobile phone after a deal between Nokia, Granada Ventures and Rok Player. The movie from ITV's licencing division, Granada Ventures, comes in the form of a digital chip licensed by Rok Player, which can be inserted in multimedia-card-compatible mobile phones. The film will cost Nokia phone holders £16.99"

Wow, this is a pretty sweet deal Nokia has signed on for here. They want to sell you a mobile version of a full length movie for around $30, roughly $10 more than a DVD copy of the same movie. Needless to say, I sure it won't play nicely on your big screen TV, I'm sure it won't be digital surround sound, and I'm sure it would cost less for you to just buy the DVD and make your own mobile version using a simple tool like Mobile Media Maker. At least then you can watch the movie on any DVD player or Windows Mobile phone you want!

£16.99? Are they serious? Play sell the movie for £9.99!

I guess the costs of putting it on an MMC card are high, but why bother when you can rip the movie yourself for £7 less?

Total rubbish. They won't sell a single copy.

You could easily stream it over 3G though (if only the UK didn't have such stupidly high data charges).

The networks and handset manufacturers will look at this soon - right now they're very busy trying to do good things with music, and after that's sorted they'll move quickly onto video.

To be honest it sounds like a total rip-off of a classic, but old film.
Maybe if nokia tried the same idea with a new release they'd be better off, although I have no doubt that there will be a number of people wanting it, just to be able to say 'look what I've got'.

SM.
