Know Your Motorola MPx220 Hardware Version
"Attention ebayer's - if you want to buy a Motorola MPx220, be aware the device you are are bidding for is the latest hardware. As mentioned before, Motorola made some hardware changes for the final version (which is on sale from Cingular and soon from other carriers as well) and to get the best stand-by results as well as all the other benefits, you need the the final hardware because the release ROMs are optimized for that hardware, not for the previously used engineering samples...Now the question is how to get the information which hardware is used? There is a hidden code which provides you some information about your hardware and software (nothing secret at all but good to know)." According to Arne Hess over at PPCW.Net, if your MPx220 reports the HW Version as 0006 or better, than you are safe. I bought mine at Best Buy and it is version 0006. I may have the latest hardware but I am not safe from the MPx220 problems. Arne has also commented on the volume and microphone issues being faced by the current MPx220 users - "The current ROM has a problem with the volume of both - the speaker and the microphone. However, Motorola is fully aware of this problem and the good news is, that this should be fixed with a ROM update!"

Sorry I should have highlighted that in my post. The mechanism to get to the version info is in Arne's article.
But here it is...
Enter/Dial *#**837#
Press the Send/Call button to get the information

Looks like I have the "good" version. Seems like a twisted way of getting to that information though. Hmmmmm
:turn-l:

Glad that they have not revised the hardware. And all the issues are software.
Moto please release the software as a downloadable update...please.

I wish they would too but I bet they are gun shy after the i600 disaster.
