Default HTCs Slide-Out s710 Reviewed at MobileBurn.com

http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=3544&source=HOMETOP

"The HTC S710 was a handset that I can honestly say I was excited to test. That doesn't happen very often, but the combination of Windows Mobile 6 Standard, a regular phone keypad, and a slide out QWERTY keyboard was very enticing to me. Sliding QWERTY keyboards are not something new to the Windows Mobile world, especially to HTC, but no other handset thus far has combined the two in a smartphone, though the Helio Ocean claims the honor of being first such handset to market. Despite not being first overall, the S710 is still the first to do it with Windows Mobile 6 Standard, and currently is the only such device on offer."

You might have read an article or two on this device already, but don't let that stop you. Mobile Burn always has the best pictures around. And their reviews are pretty darn good too.

Just curious how the screen is. It appears to be larger than one on something like a 2125 but not as large as on a Blackjack or 8125. HOw does it compare size wise?

Also curious about the slide mechanism. Have they gotten any better at building those to last? I have several friends with phones like the 8125 or V6700 - which were the first of those slider phones - and the keyboards have really loosened up over time. How does that appear for the 710?

Finally, there is apparently a voice dial application w/ a dedicated key on the side. What are your experiences with that? I'm assuming it's an HTC application - and just for voice dialing - not the full Voice Command application correct?

Thansk for any other comments or information.

Given that it swaps WiFi for 3G, how would you rate the Vox in comparison to the Blackjack? I can see its a little smaller and 1/4" thicker than the Blackjack, but it seems to be more of a side-grade than an upgrade for a current Blackjack owner.

The screen sizes are almost the same except for the 8125. The 2125 is 2.2 inches diagonal, BlackJack is 2.3 and the Vox is 2.4 (the 8125 is 2.8 ). Interestingly enough all the devices are 320x240 resolution so all we are talking about is making bigger or smaller pixels. My perception is the Vox screen is bigger when I just look at it.

The slide mechanism is much better that the one on the 8125 or the 8525 (I owned both of those). It is much smoother and feels better made. I have only had the Vox for a few weeks so ask me in 6 months.

I haven't used it much. You just set up voice tags. It is definitely not any form of the Voice Command application.

I would agree with that. It is more of a form factor change than an "upgrade". I find I don't miss the 3G (and I thought I would) because I don't surf much on the phone. This is actually the first Smartphone I have owned with WiFi built in. I have used it a little and like the convenience of having it. I liked the BlackJack a lot. I like the Vox form factor better.
