Default Geekzone Motorola MPx220 Windows Mobile Smartphone Review

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?ContentId=4131

"I have been using Pocket PC devices for years, but was always inclined to have an all in one device for PIM management and communications. I have experimented with Pocket PC Phone Edition devices, but I still think they’re too big to be comfortably used as a mobile phone – although the latest versions, including the i-mate PDA2k (GSM/GPRS) and TNZ Harrier/Verizon XV6600 (CDMA EV-DO) include some very appealing functionality, including better Bluetooth support (headset, dial-up, networking) and high-speed internet access (on the CDMA EV-DO version)."

What I find interesting about this parade of reviews on the MPx220 is that the farther we get from the original disaster with the volume, the camera, BestBuy and the rest, the more favorable the review is. Those of us who went through it though will not forget how Motorola has handled the entire thing. While there is no question the phone is now working well, it is working as well as it should have the day it was released.

I think some of us don't hold grudges quite as long as you do...

I was disappointed just like everybody else (and I went through FIVE MPx220s!), but now that I have a well-functioning model, I'm willing to forgive a company who will do everything they can to get me a working product (assuming they actually get me a working product).

I am one of those customers who loves a store that will take back anything you've bought, at any time, for any reason! Even if I have to take it back because of serious issues, I'll still be a big fan of the store because they're looking out for their customers.

I have the feeling that Motorola have been scrabbling a bit to establish themselves as players in the smartphone market, and that they may consequently have rushed devices to the market before they were ready.

As a software developer who's often been put in that position by marketing people, I have a lot of sympathy for the Motorola engineers.

Hopefully things will proceed more smoothly from now on (if only from the practice effect)...I think Motorola have made an important contribution to the MS smartphone market by providing some much-needed form-factor diversity, and I'm glad that they seem to be finally getting the kinks ironed out of their devices.
