I'm 99% sure you can, but if I get a chance tomorow, I'll test it. I'll reset my Zune and connect it to an offline PC and see what happens.

You do have the option when you install to NOT automatically scan and import all music (or video, or pictures) on your hard drive. You can then selectively import into the library (in the Zune software, you add a folder at a time, in iTunes, a single item or entire folder).

Jason: I know you're not an iPod user, but it might be a worthwhile comparison to install iTunes and run the same import on your music and photo libraries to compare the time and process.
