I'm 99% sure you can, but if I get a chance tomorow, I'll test it. I'll reset my Zune and connect it to an offline PC and see what happens.

You do have the option when you install to NOT automatically scan and import all music (or video, or pictures) on your hard drive. You can then selectively import into the library (in the Zune software, you add a folder at a time, in iTunes, a single item or entire folder).

Jason: I know you're not an iPod user, but it might be a worthwhile comparison to install iTunes and run the same import on your music and photo libraries to compare the time and process.

I talked to Jason about this; the problem is, unless you have an iPod, it won't touch your photos. The photo transfer options only appear under a tab when you select the iPod in the left column in iTunes.

We did observe that it does tell you the counts and whatnot up front, making it easier to choose out of the box.

Jason, seeing how you just dumped a fortune to come to the states and get several zunes, perhaps you could spring for an iPod and do a comparison of the two. I'd love to see a head-to-head review from you.

You can always sell the iPod afterwards.
