Default New 2.3 Zune Firmware Released for All Zunes

http://zuneinsider.com/archive/2007/12/18/firmware-update-2-3.aspx

It's firmware update day! According to the Zune Insider, there aren't any new features in this firmware update, but it does contain a fix for the Zune 30/80 battery life issues - and believe it or not this is the first I've heard of the Zune 80 having the same sort of battery life problem as the Zune 30. That might explain why my Zune 80 battery went dead overnight not too long ago. Other improvements in this firmware update are improved device recognition and improved stability and reliability on sync (both USB connect and wirelessly connect).

Here's the firmware update on my Zune 30 (when I did the Zune 8 firmware update it was exactly the same):

I'd update my Zune 80 as well, but the battery on it is dead - and I haven't used it since I charged it up a few days ago. Yeah, looks like I need the fix!

Got the update, all looks well on my device. Note that although the message says that wireless will be turned on, this did not happen to me. It had been off before, and after it rebooted, wireless was still off.

Anyone notice the unsubscribe feature for podcasts? Donald Bell from c|net crave should be told - he raved about this feature and was disappointed to find it wasn't on the initial released version....

Here is a little secret about the new firmware upgrade- it can't be installed if your Zune is nearly full. I have two 8GB Zunes. After plugging in, my Zune with less than a 1GB of space just sat there and did not download the new firmware When I tried to force it to do so, I received the message that no update was available. Plugging in my Zune with about half of its memory available, the update downloaded and installed without issue. I think a warning about this issue would be appropriate somewhere on the Zune software.
