Default My Dusty White Zune

I had hoped that nothing like this was ever going to happen with the Zune, because I've seen it happen with Pocket PCs & Smartphones, but it looks like the Zune is vulnerable to dust under the screen. Below is a macro photo of my white Zune and every speck you see on the screen is dust. I cleaned the screen very thoroughly to ensure that none of the dust was on the outside.

I'm honestly quite surprised at the amount of dust under the screen, and how quickly it happened (less than 60 days). Next I'm going to call Zune tech support and see what they offer to do for me. I hoping that this is an isolated incident on my part and that this isn't a wide-spread problem - I haven't heard about this happening to anyone else, but are you seeing dust under the screen of your Zune?

Unhappy Yes, Indeed...

There's dust under my Zune screen, too, I'm afraid. And under the screen of my old Jornada and my Audiovox SMT5600, too.

No dust, but are you against crackin your baby open and cleaning it from the inside, maybe sealing off the edge while you're at it? I'm sure someone's in the market for this (probably the PocketPC guys you all had to deal with)

Gad, you scared me; I had to go look. Thankfully, no dust yet (knocks on wood).

As a Jornada 568 owner (had 3 over the course of the warranty for mostly dust issues) I'm happy to say none....yet. But, I'm thinking.....argh...not again!

Nah, I'd prefer to send it back rather than do that - I'm not much of a "hardware hacker", especially given all the bad luck I've been having lately.

I had to run and check on mine too. It seemed ok but was it? I cleaned the screen, got out the magnifier glass, unfortunately I don't have a Sherlock Holmes hat and pipe, and preceded to examined the screen...damn, there was a white speck in the middle of the screen. My heart stopped. Suddenly and without warning I heard a howling in the distance, then a crack of lightening outside the window that seemed to restarted my heart, and the lights flickered. With what seemed like pure adrenaline coursing through my veins I reached the glass cleaner and clean that screen I did, like Cinderella cranked on meth. Reaching for the magnfier again I looked and looked. The speck was gone. I looked all over not a single speck. I was saved; this time the bullet missed me.

Jason, the lcd pictures at ipodmods look to me like the displays are sealed, but maybe there is a separate piece on top. I'd still don't think I'd try to get in there to clean. If you do, try compressed air to blow it off instead of wiping it off.
