You should try a hard reset:
  1. Press and hold the back button
  2. Press up until it reboots
  3. Then start pressing and holding the center "OK" button and pressing left on the control pad (you have to do step 3 when the screen goes blank but before the reboot process actually starts)
It's a bit tricky to get it right, so you may need to try a few times. Once it's finished, connect it to your PC and it will try to install the latest firmware again.

Unhappy Not working

Maybe I'm just special or I bought a special 4GB Zune, but when I hold down the back button and the up botton on the control panel it doesn't reset. When I charge my Zune nothing happens, when I connect it to my computer nothing happens. I've made sure the lock botton is not active and still everything i try results in absolutely nothing. Any suggestions... Please???

So it won't turn on at all, and it won't charge? Sounds like a defective Zune - hopefully you can return it to the place you bought it from, or call Zune tech support at 1-877-438-9863.

my wife's Zune8 just died as well...just sitting there doing nothing. To say the least I'm pissed. It is under warranty but there is no excuse for a device to die just sitting there doing nothing. It is like it slips into a coma. Not even an initialize will bring it back.

Hell my Zune 30 is more reliable....and it has moving parts!
