Whether anything looks fishy or not, it's always a good idea to look at the sellers feeback and ratings. Next, read the negative reviews carefully and most importantly review the previous successful auctions for either similar product sold, ie. mobile phone, computer, etc.
If the seller got his/her favorable ratings from selling posters and then all of the sudden starts to sell high tech goods, you have something strange and should be approached with more caution. I am not stating that it's impossible that a poster seller begins selling GSM handsets, but I am stating that it's out of the ordinary and an escrow service (endorsed by eBay) should be used. Remember there are many fake escrow services setup to prey on innocent and naive bidders.
Many eBay sellers unknowingly get their user passwords compromised and thieves use their accounts to steal from unknowing bidders. This can even happen to mobile phone dealers so everything might look legit until you phone is never received in the mail. Sometimes retailers and reputable online resellers are worth the premium that they charge. One bad eBay transaction would wipe out savings on several auctions.
