Default Windows Mobile 6 for Blackjack Coming in June?

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007/05/07/windows-mobile-6-for-blackjack-coming-in-june/

"If this rumor is to believed it, it looks like Dash owners will enjoy another full month of exclusivity. Pocketnow is reporting that "an industry source" informed them that Cingular's Samsung Blackjack smartphone won't be receiving the Windows Mobile treatment until June. It's anyone's guess as to why the updates are taking so long, as the software has clearly been ready and available for quite some time now. Without, ah hem, pointing fingers, we can only assume that this is a carrier-side issue, as it's been clear from the jump that upgrade availability would depend entirely on the willingness, or lack thereof, of the Windows Mobile software. All we can do is hope that the delay means that Samsung is working hard to include a version of the uber-slick Carousel home screen interface that they're currently including on the European version of the i600. While we're at it, why don't you fix the keyboard issue Sammy…You know, the problem that you can't type more than 1 letter a minute?"

Now you have to admit, rumors lately have been coming true. We heard that the Dash update would be May 4 and indeed it was. Now the Boy Genius is reporting that the Blackjack will get the Windows Mobile 6 update next month. Now besides the OS upgrade, what else would you like to see Samsung add to make the Blackjack even better than it is? Perhaps the Carousel home screen interface mentioned in the article? Anything else?

June, that's still early. I was hoping August or late September. Come on Samsung don't you have more important projects.

Just kidding, folks. I think everyone should be getting the WM6 upgrade ASAP.

I REALLY REALLY hope Samsung fix the bluetooth issue and come ship with Voice Command with WM6 upgrade just like DASH did. That's the only problem I have with current BJ.

I thought the carousel interface was specific to the Orange version of the I-600. If so I doubt we would see it for the , now blue, ATT.

On the bluetooth issue, I don't see much better luck there either... Samsungs choice of hardware is the limiting factor for VC support.

It's not. It was developed by Microsoft and it will be seen in other devices from other manufacturers in the coming months.

IIRC, DASH was not compatible with VC1.6 in WM5 either. Now VC becomes (optional) part of WM6 OS, vendors are more motivated to make sure teir BT stacks are compatible. The problem with BlackJack Bluetooth is not hardware but rather software driver, IMHO.

Actually, given the amount of customization to the basic interface by Samsung (home screen; quicklaunch thumb wheel, etc) this is really a pretty quick release of a new OS. Now IF they could just enable that secret WiFi chip we all know they hid in the i607, THAT would be an accomplishment.

If you track that post all the way back to the WMExperts post, they say that the Samsung update will come AFTER June.

Yesh, no one ever mentioned that we will see WM6 update in June. The whole story chain all relate back to the old news item that states Samsung gives Cingular WM6 build at the 5/25 and Cingular has 8 weeks to respond. Move over, no news here.
