WebIS, the makers of fine software applications like Pocket Informant and Flex Wallet, are announcing full support for Windows Mobile 6. Wish there were more details about the Smartphone related updates in this press release.

I find it interesting that they claimed this so early. The WM6 SDK hasn't been released by Microsoft yet and Microsoft's not even claiming that WM6 has gone gold yet, so things can still change. That being said, Microsoft has also said that basically everything that works on WM5 will work on WM6. I guess I should just claim WM6 compatibility now too. :?

Some developers I am sure have early access to the SDK Betas.

It is true that Microsoft claims compatibility between versions but not all customers would know that, so this is a good way to get some marketing buzz going.

The cool thing is that WebIS is trying to bring some WM6 look n feel and functionality to the WM5 Smartphone.

Actually, they are both officially released now. Yesterday was the big WinMo6 announcement day. It's actually been done for a number of months, just announced yesterday.

According to MSDN the SDK isnt officially available until March 1st. What am I missing??

I would assume Alex had access to earlier versions or at least an early test device to claim this, though it sounds like we should all be able to as well. I guess the 320x320 screen size will add a little work once a device appears that might actually have it but most of the original work for WM% will make this fairly trivial for most applications.

I wonder if he shared it with SBSH so "Pocket Informant for Smartphones" can actually claim this too. Its rather strange showing the PPC version, sorry the "Professional" version, of PI in the release for this "Standard" site.

Sorry, you're right about the SDK. There was so many announcements yesterday that I thought I saw one about it. Must have been mistaken. :?

Announcing is one thing, delivering is another.

There aren't too many changes with the new WM6 SDK so the majority of the applications will work on the new OS right away without applying any changes to them.

But there is always a chance that there will be a few minor updates needed in the code to get everything working as it should. From our experience I can tell that all of our applications both for Pocket PC and Smartphone worked correctly on the new WM6 OS apart from PocketBreeze and Facade.

We located a small modification we had to implement with SBSH Facade to get it working correctly with WM6 and we also located two problems we had with PocketBreeze that were just fixed with our latest public beta build from a few days ago which will soon also be officially released as SBSH PocketBreeze 5.2.

Since in our case the modifications to get everything working as it should with WM6 were rather small we decided not to release any announcement about our applications compatibility with the new OS, but instead we will simply include a notice about the WM6 support of our applications with our upcoming new updates of our applications as they come in the next few weeks from now.

I'm guessing that PI for Pocket PC had to go through some more modifications to get everything compatible with the new OS version hence the announcement on the compatibility with the new OS version
