"Rogers Wireless Inc. said Wednesday that the federal Competition Bureau won't oppose its friendly $1.4-billion takeover of rival Microcell Telecommunications, owner of the Fido cellphone network. ...the head of the Rogers Communications Group said last week he wouldn't consider the Microcell agreement a done deal until the Competition Bureau gave its approval. The Rogers-Microcell deal will combine the only two wireless networks that use the GSM/GPRS standard, which is used throughout Europe and many other parts of the world, but only in some North American networks."It looks like Canada will now have one less carrier to pick from. Although, I feel better about the Rogers offer than the Telus offer, I'm still not sure this is a good thing for Canadians.
