Default Roaming Agreement to help Expand T-Mobile's Network Coverage

http://www.mobiledia.com/news/35339.html

"Centennial Communications today announced that it has entered into a new long-term roaming agreement with T-Mobile USA, Inc. ...Centennial Communications customers benefit from the ability to roam on T-Mobile USA's nationwide GSM / GPRS network. T-Mobile customers benefit from expanded network coverage in Indiana and Michigan, as well as Louisiana and Mississippi. Additional terms of the agreement are not disclosed."

Anyone here live in Indiana, Michigan, Louisiana, or Mississippi and use T-Mobile? If so, congratulations! Your coverage just improved. To the rest of you; Please try again.

Oh sure, now that I've switched to Cingular they do this. I live in Michigan and frequently travel to areas only served by Centennial. When I switched back in March, Cingular was the only major provider that had a roaming agreement with Centennial. Oh well, only about 6 months to go before I can switch back.

Default Hooray

The coverage area has been my only complaint with T-Mobile. Hopefully this will help when I travel outside of the Indianapolis metro area. I wonder if the whole coverage area (http://www.centennialwireless.com/im...n_coverage.jpg) is GSM or if that includes analog coverage as well?

One of the things the press release doesn't mention is whcih freqency or frequencies does Centennial use? When I roam on them in southern Michigan I believe it is 850. I didn't think T-Mobile sold any phones that had 850 enabled?

T-Mobile has been gradually phasing in new phones with 850 enabled as a prelude to roaming agreements like this one. I guess they finally figured out that they need more coverage if they want to compete with the big kids like Verizon and Cingular. Now, if they'd just sign a deal with CellularOne/Dobson...

True, I know that DCS/CellOne in MN was one of their early 850 roaming testbeds, but I can never get a straight answer with regard to whether it applies in New York state, and WNY in particular.
