Default PanTech Receives FCC Approval for Verizon Smartphone

http://phonearena.com/htmls/Pantech-is-preparing-Windows-Mobile-5-Smartphone-for-Verizon-article-a_1285.html

"The PN-820 (PC-8200N) combines high-end functionality and stylish design, has 1.3-megapixel camera with flash, memory expansion via miniSD (I/O) cards. The device has also powerful connectivity features, including WI-FI (not sure) and Bluetooth. The FCC pages do not reveal information on its display, but we guess it is a QVGA 240x320, 65k color TFT one, and secondary unit is located on the front shell for caller ID functionality."

It looks like Verizon is getting ready to launch more Windows Mobile devices than just the Motorola Q. PanTech's PN-820 has received FCC approval and the pictures clearly show a Verizon logo on the device. Is anyone else starting to think that 2006 might be the year of the Windows Mobile flip phone?

FCC documents can be found here.

Where's my Scrolling Click wheel! *grumble grumble*

:bad-words:

I sure hope its a flip phone kinda year. I'm sick of scratched screens and bulky candy bars. Having to buy cases, etc.

This thing has WiFi [Based on the user guide]? :? Wow!

I doubt it if Verizon will release it with WiFi.

Well, based on the i730 and XV6700, if they do release it with WiFi, they'll disable simultaneous operation (although those two phones have been trivial to hack--a registry change--to get simultaneous WiFi and CDMA).

Anyway, about freaking time Verizon gets a Smartphone (Mike, they do already sell three WM devices, just Pocket PCs. :P). Could Verizon actually be selling 4-5 Windows Mobile devices by the end of this year? 8O

I never said they didn't (or did I... I don't recall), I just said they're getting ready to launch more than the Q. Anyway, it doesn't matter, I don't count those PPC things. That's not a real phone.

Yeah, but who wants a "real phone"? After all, as I'm sure Jerry would agree, a real phone has a rotary dial.

Ah, yes. Good old rotary dial. Jeez, I miss those days. They can't put those on mobile phones. Can you imagine how much extra that would add to the device!

Really? 8O I hated restarting dialing a number when I dialed the wrong one or I didn't entirely cycle one through. Give me my current smart dial-based life any day over rotary...

Oh sure, SmartDial is nice, but don't you miss the old days? I used to try and dial as fast as possible without making a mistake. You just can't have a challenge like that with SmartDial.

Touch Tone button dialing IS FOR THE WEAK!

Rotary pulse, it's retro, its clean, its what Hip. Yesterday is today. Get with it guys.

Back in my day we used morse code and WE LIKED IT!

So when is Pantech releasing a GSM model to the US? I really need to retire this MPX220.
