Default New Pirelli Bluetooth Enabled Tires

Pirelli has announced a new feature for it's X-Pressure tire pressure monitoring system called AcousticBlue. This new feature will send a signal via Bluetooth to your cellphone, informing you of any tire related problems.

On the surface, this sounds like a good idea. However, the more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that this is crazy. Do you really want someone to take their hands off the steering wheel to grab their cellphone and read an alert stating that your tire is flat. In a flat tire situation, I would like the driver to have both hands on the wheel, please and thank you. Especially if we're motoring along the highway! :?

Probably like the 2005 Tahoe/Yukon/Denali/Suburban -- they have a tire pressure monitoring sensor in each wheel (it's actually part of the valve stem) and it sends the information to a sensor in the dash -- they may be hoping that vehicle manufacturers will use their "open system" instead of the chevy "closed system"

It may not need a phone at all...
