Default Moto Q 9h Trumps The Apple iPhone

http://www.sltrib.com/business/ci_8871796

"The Good Housekeeping Research Institute study engineers and a consumer panel compared 11 new QWERTY phones under $300 (suggested retail price with a two-year service) along with the iPhone ($400 suggested retail) and evaluated the phones for simplicity of text-messaging, text delivery speed, battery life, as well as ease of placing calls and voice quality. The Moto Q 9h came in second for ease of texting, beating Apple's iPhone. The Moto Q 9h's screen drew rave reviews for being large and easy to read. Not suprisingly, the phone also earned top marks on voice quality during calls."

Ah-ha! Take that Apple! Looks like a fancy user interface, incredible Web browser, and lots of storage aren't everything in the eyes of consumers! Sometimes all you need is a comfortable QWERTY keyboard to make your users happy. Now if only Windows Mobile devices would add all of the other things mentioned above, then our handsets might actually trump Apple in other categories besides texting.

Why the Q9h? When you read the story, you find out that the Verizon Voyager piece of junk was the winner, and they also reported this:

Quote:
. . . the Rumor and the iPhone were the only phones tested where consumer panelists didn't need the manual to figure out how to send a text message.
They clearly were not using a very sophisticated panel.

Surprisingly, most consumers are not very hip on the obvious... like hitting the button that looks like an envelope to send a text message. Granted, the Windows Mobile environment can be a little daunting at times.

Texting, I believe, is the iPhone's weakest link.

As with almost every complaint or reported drawback about the iPhone, you can probably add, ". . . so far." For a 1.0 product they did a pretty darned good job.

Dangerous waters here Rocco;

A Windows Mobile phone, even my beloved Q9h, beating out Apple?

The iPhone enthusiasts will most certainly say "Say it aint so."

But at least I've got bragging rights for all of, oh, 5 seconds of internet time.

I think it depends on the domain of _what_ you are texting. By-and-large, I find myself faster on the iPhone's screen keyboard than the Blackberry/WM thumbboards for common English words and phrases -- I just type and let the predictive correction do its magic -- but am significantly slower for more esoteric content where the predictive mechanisms are largely useless.

I have both of these devices sitting right next to me on my desk. I can definitely type out a message faster on the Q9. The iPhone keyboard can be a bit frustrating at times but it is also a narrower than the Q keyboard. Now how many Q and WM iterations are we at again?

That is not a valid argument Jerry. We all know good and well that this could have been the 100th Q variant and Motorola would have found a way to 220 it
