Default MobileMag: "Hard Disk Drives Not Ready for Mass Market with Mobile Phones"

http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/340/C2760/

"Positioned at the center of the mobile device universe, mobile phones are quickly becoming robust multifunctional platforms that will enable mobile users to get out from under the weight of multiple devices. According to new research from IDC, however, the incorporation of hard disk drives (HDDs) into mobile handsets will require a number of further evolutionary steps before HDD-enabled mobile phones will represent a beneficial investment for consumers and enterprises."

The IDC article backs up what I've felt since first using my IBM 1 GB Microdrive. Damn cool technology, but too expensive, too power hungry, and too fragile for most mobile devices. :?

I must agree! Heck, I think that some mobile phones are too fragile for mobile phones!

Absolutely. I can't see why people are talking about hard disks in phones when no PDA includes one yet.

In fact, I really don't want a hard disk in my Pocket PC (or Smartphone, if I ever get one). I even wrote an editorial about it.
