Default Microsoft Windows Live Mobile Beta and Windows Live Messenger Mobile Beta

http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=3155

"Microsoft is currently working on Windows Live Messenger Mobile client for Windows Mobile devices and while everything was under NDA so far, Microsoft has allowed the current Beta users to publish more information and screenshots now. So what's the Windows Live Messenger Mobile is about? Well, basically it's the mobile device counterpart of Microsoft's new Windows Live Messenger for PCs which will replace the current Windows XP Messenger as well as the MSN Messenger clients to unify the messaging experience under one umbrella - Windows Live. The current version, which is available to a closed user group only, is an early Beta build and therefore far away from how it will works in the final version and since it is such an early Beta, it has some serious bugs."

I'm lucky enough to be one of the people testing this product and while I do see some potential for it in the future, at the moment it is just too buggy for me to use on a day to day basis. Reading through the beta site, I'm unsure what I can or cannot talk about at the moment so I'll only touch base on what Arne has touched base on. The RSS reader is pretty cool and I can see it replacing my current means of looking at news on a daily basis, everything else however is still pretty buggy.

I too have been testing this, and it is HORRIBLE.
What makes me say this is the way it handles your contacts.

Example:
You have a contact in your phone as John Doe with a phone number or two, email address and IM address.
You also have John Doe in your MSN "buddy list" as JDoe@hotmail.com (for example).
WHen you SYNC your contacts, Live Messenger Mobile will add JDoe@Hotmail.com into your contacts as a seperate entry, instead of pulling it from the entry already in your contacts.

ARGH!!!!

I think it is a step in the right direction. Messenger Mobile has been stagnant for years!

This was my main problem with it. I use exchange hosting and when it synced my contacts, it merged my messenger and hotmail contacts with the exchange contacts on my phone. Those were then synced back to the exchange server so I had duplicates and also the separate entries for the messenger contacts. Very annoying.

yea, this is one of those problems i wasnt sure if i was allowed to talk about or not

this is the main reason why im not using this beta at the moment. personally, i really dont see the need to sync up my friends list with my contacts. if you dont have a lot of friends on msn you can always go through and delete them from your contact list. this is what i did

I am not sure if Microsoft will be able to do a three way sync - between Exchange/Outlook, Hotmail/MSN/Live and Pocket Outlook.

Currently ActiveSync forces you to select between direct Exchange sync or a desktop based Outlook [even though it may go to Exchange] sync, you are not allowed to sync from both direct Exchange and Outlook; I believe Hotmail/MSN/Live will be added to that exclusion list somehow. So that you can only sync from one of the source - 1. direct Exchange, 2. Outlook, 3. Hotmail/MSN/Live.

Does that make sense? :?

see the whole syncing thing wouldnt be as bad if they just found a way to not make the screennames integrate in such a horrible manner
