Default LG Electronics Develops High-Resolution Smartphone

http://sg.news.yahoo.com/031007/16/3erad.html

"South Korea's second-largest handset maker, said today it had developed a high-end mobile phone, also known as a smartphone, equipped with a 1.1 mega pixel digital camera. The device has a total of 192 MB memory and uses Microsoft's operating system for handheld computers."

The device is expected to be available in Singapore for US$694.40 by the end of the year. The article claims that this device can record up to an hour of moving video. We don't have much information on this device yet, but hopefully that will change soon. What we do know (like the 1.1 mega pixel camera! 8O) is quite impressive.

LG Electronics has a booth at the "ITU Telecom World 2003" conference going next week and one device that they plan to show off is listed as having a 176x220 display with rich multimedia capabilities. Could this be a Windows Mobile-powered Smartphone? We'll find out next week and hopefully get some photos and more detailed specs.

So now the question to be asking is if LG Electronics is the mystery partner everyone has been buzzing about lately or if Sierra Wireless will confirm the rumors and make their own announcement today as well.

The specs seems nice. Too bad I have little confidence in LG's quality.

There's an item about this on Gizmodo http://www.gizmodo.com this morning - and a photo. It looks like a PocketPC Phone more than a SmartPhone, though there's a nifty slide out keyboard.

Hmm. I've always cringed a little that they make both microwaves and computer hardware, but I had a combo DVD/CD-R from LG that worked like a charm - so I think they know that they're doing when it comes to electronics.

Well, it appears the former device is a Pocket PC PE and not a Smartphone as posted over at PPCThoughts, but the design is nice and the sliding keyboard could perhaps could be adapted to a smaller footprint.

At least we know now that LG holds some Microsoft licenses, so it would not surprise me if they release a Smartphone at some point......

I guess their CD-Rs aren't bad at all. LG also makes a line of facial soaps and cosmetic products that many women have no problem using. I guess my bad experice came from the line of LG phones that we have sold in our store. They felt very under developed. LG CDMA phones freeze quite often, so much that we actully recomend customer to not buy them.

But, I could be wrong. Maybe this could be some awesome pocket pc. I know that they made the first batch of ipaqs for Compaq.
