Default i-mate SP3 Now Available Online

http://www.expansys-usa.com/product.asp?code=SMARTPHONE_3&asource=IMATE

It looks like the i-mate SP3 is finally available for purchase online from Expansys. If you order now, it will ship in 3 days, which means you could have a brand new i-mate SP3 by the end of next week!

If you ask me, the 3 day delay in shipping indicates that the product isn't available for sale until Monday. Anyone else want to bet that we'll see other retailers offering the i-mate for sale this coming Monday?

The UK Store has it in stock and shipping NOW! Looks like the 3 day shipping delay is because the product has to be shipped from the Central Store in Europe to the US store.

Another thing missing on the site is whether the phone is the American version (850/1800/1900) or the European version (900/1800/1900). :-(

Oh! Good point. You might want to be careful ordering this as it could be the wrong version. That doesn't mean it won't work. It will work, just not on all frequencies. :wink:

That's too expensive, but then again, that's Expansys...

Just noticed that I hadn't scrolled down enough on the page. ops: At the bottom of the page they have a section called "Additional Details". That clearly mentions that these phones are European version (900/1800/1900). :-(

Also my favorite the SP3i will now ship in 10 days. Earlier it was saying 4 days. :-(

An American version (850/1800/1900) is now available from AT&T Wireless as the AudioVox SMT5600 ($149 with 1 yr contract & $50 online discount).

The Audiovox is locked to AT&T, and while it may be possible to get the phone unlocked, you still can not buy the phone without being or signing an AT&T contract. The i-mate SP3 is not locked to any carrier. Plus, i-mate have been very good at releasing updates in the past, while I can't say the same for AT&T.

$149 for the phone +
$ 40 for unlocking the phone +
$175 for signing up for an AT&T contract and cancelling
------
$364, which is way cheaper than I've seen SP3s for ..

You have a point about AT&Ts ROM upgrade record, but I'm wondering (since these are all HTC phones) if you could put an Orange, i-Mate, PPCW ROM on like you could w/ the e100s?
