It's that time of year when people who leave anywhere near the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, or the Atlantic Ocean need to get ready for Hurricane Season. Cingular has come out with a number of tips to help people get the most from their cell phones in the event of a hurricane. These tips include:

• Program in all emergency numbers: 911, police, fire, etc.
• Have a family communications plan, including a person who is the central contact
• Forward your home number to your mobile if you evacuate
• Keep your phone dry (Keep your phone dry? Ever been in a hurricane?)
• Keep non-emergency calls to a minimum
• Try using SMS

All in all, these are pretty good tips.
