Default HTC to Launch 12 New Mobile Devices in 2007

http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20070122PD206.html

"High Tech Computer (HTC) plans to introduce 12 new handsets in 2007 to help expand its business, according to company sources. But the company also expects its revenues for the first quarter of this year to decline slightly from the fourth quarter of last year due to seasonal factors, said the sources. Additionally, the company will continue to stick to its current policy by cooperating simultaneously with telecom services providers, ODMs and the channel in order to sustain its growth, stated company CEO Peter Chou late last week. HTC will also continue to expand the list of its global clients by strengthening its presence in emerging markets, including Latin America, the Middle East and India, Chou added."

The news article does not provide much details but 12 devices is a lot. Wish they had at least mentioned how many are going to be Windows Mobile Smartphones. This year we will see devices with Crossbow, the update to Windows Mobile 5.0; which means that out of the 12 devices slated for this year a big chunk will get released probably in the third or fourth quarter. Based on the info we have at this time, I am interested in the HTC and I know that the HTC Cavalier is the other favourite. What do you have your eyes on at this time?

This is my point. While Moto is busy making the Q in pastel colors, HTC is cranking out 12 new devices. I doubt Moto will even have 12 new colors!

HTC kind of has to pump out a lot of WinMo products because that's pretty much their entire business. Moto has about 50 new devices each year. They don't specialize in smartphones like HTC. The market is simply bigger for non-smartphone products, thus Moto's concentration will remain on non-smartphone products.

Oh I agree, Moto isn't going away because they don't care much about Smartphones. It is just my focus here. I wish they would make more devices. I lost count of how many StarTacs I owned, not to mention some of the earlier models they made. I always thought they were the best.

None. Not until HTC is clear of their dusty screens. :?

Moto Q played a key part in bringing attention to the Smartphone platform. While Moto might not be moving it forward at the same pace as the competition, it is still a key device. I hope it helps HTC focus more of the 12 up and coming devices on the Smartphone side of WinMo.

I liked the Q, I owned one. I'm not sure I'd go as far as say it focused anything though. I think the BlackJack and the Dash did that more than the Q.

Nah, I see lots of announcements that say "now supporting Moto Q" or something similiar. What they mean is that it supports Windows MObile Smartphone now. The reason they are wording it like that is A) they don't know better, or B) they are trying to appeal the to less technical crowd that is buying or using the Q. I don't see any announcements that are claiming support for the BJ or Dash. (unless there was a bug in the previous version and a new version was required)
