Today there was an odd announcment in the Smartphone world. A thrid party called Intrinsic put out a press release saying they would be developing the radio layer that would act as the interface between Siemens hardware and Microsoft Smartphone OS. Could Siemens be planning a Microsoft Smartphone? Earlier rumors of a Siemens Smartphone were easily dispelled once more photos of the handset were released. Maybe they weren't all wrong.
"Intrinsyc Software International, Inc., a global leader in creating, networking and managing specialized, intelligent devices, today announced it has entered into a partnership with Siemens mobile to collaborate on the development of wireless software products for the Siemens line of GSM/GPRS wireless modules.
These products include Radio Interface Layer (RIL) and Multiplexer (MUX) embedded software. They allow manufacturers of handhelds based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 software for Smartphones and Pocket PCs to deliver wireless functionality based on the Siemens wireless modules with ease and flexibility while reducing development risk, cost and time to market."
