Cingular Offers Microsoft Direct Push Technology for the Cingular 2125
"Cingular Wireless will offer its business customers access to corporate e-mail via Direct Push Technology, a feature of Microsoft® Windows Mobile® 5.0 with the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) upgrade, beginning on June 19, 2006. The solution initially will be available on two of the hottest wireless devices in the market today: the Cingular 8100 series Pocket PC and Cingular 2125 Smartphone. Direct Push Technology delivers an enhanced mobile experience to organizations that use Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 by pushing updates to e-mail, calendar items, contacts and tasks as they arrive directly from the Exchange Server to the devices." Here it comes finally! For those of you foaming at the mouth for Direct Push, the thing Moto left out of the Q, it may finally be here along with MSFP. It will also be available for the 8125 as well. The story talks mainly of corporate customers and new rate plans for this. I'm not sure how that translates as far as just getting the new ROM (or update if that's what it is). I suspect we will all be able to access it as the article references this link which won't be active until the June 19th.

Moto Q may have left it out, but so did just about every other manufacturer. It's being released as ROM updates for most WM5 phones. In a couple of months, the Q will likely have it's ROM update available. Not sure why everyone has made a big deal about it on the Q since most of the other WM5 devices launched that way as well.
Plus, Moto appears to initially be tageting Pro-sumers, not necessarily business users. Most people aren't running exchange servers out of their homes to even use AKU2. (Because your running this site, you might, but the average user using this for personal use and not business won't.)

Good points, still no reason to wait. Why not have it there when the device is released? Especially since it should be a Blackberry killer and the software has long been available.

Probably because of stability issues and they'd have to reflash the entire stock of Q's that they were building for inventory at Verizon. Remember, most of the manufacturers launched without AKU2 and A2DP support. I'm sure it's not simply a choice of enabling AKU2 or not. Since most manufactures launched without it, I'm assuming there are implementation issues which will be worked out in a ROM update as other manufacturers have done.
Moto at least got the A2DP in there as it's being marketed more towards the consumer right now.

Don't forget, most other manufacturers also launched their devices 4-6 months ago. The StarTrek (imate SmartFlip) is due shortly and is expected to have AKU2 already on it.
I think Moto just got too behind and couldn't afford to take this extra step. I expect we'll see the update released in the next month. Verizon knows that the business customer wants that, and they are going to want to take full advantage of their 6 month exclusive. So it's coming - soon. At least that's my thoughts.

(QUOTE FROM ORIGINAL ARTICLE)
Microsoft Direct Push Technology will be available through Cingular's B2B sales organization starting on June 19. For the Cingular 8100 Series Pocket PC, the Cingular Microsoft Direct Push Technology data plan is $44.99 with a qualifying voice plan for unlimited Internet and e-mail access. For the Cingular 2125 Smartphone, the data plan is $29.99 with a qualifying voice plan for unlimited Internet and e-mail access. Both plans include access to specialized tier 1 and 2 support.
---------------------------------------------------------
Why would I want to pay Cingular $44.99 or $29.99 for a push plan when I already have it working on both my 2125 and 8125 for nothing???
Am I missing something here!!!???
EDIT: OK...I'm paying $19.99 for MediaNet Unlimited right now, so if that includes use of an exchange server, I guess it's not that bad. I would still want to have a choice to do the push mail through another source if I wanted to though.

I don't think there is anyway for them to restrict what Exchange server you connect to. That would be silly. I can't see any enterprise customer going for that. Part of the whole appeal of Microsoft's Direct Push is the ability to use it with any Exchange server and that there is no carrier involvement required.

Then why the extra charge? Are they saying they're gonna charge extra each month if you simply have the feature on the phone? Why would someone pay $29.99 for this when MediaNet Unlimited is $10/month cheaper?
