Default CDMA Version of the Motorola Q Pops Up

http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000220062364/

"We can’t exactly condone someone dropping six large on any cellphone, especially one that’ll probably be officially available in a few short months, but CTI NYC.com claims to have an EV-DO version of Motorola’s Q Smartphone for sale. If legit — and we tend to believe that it is — this would more or less confirm the rumors going around that Moto is going to introduce a Q with EV-DO sometime next year, when it’d likely be going head-to-head with Palm’s EV-DO-enabled Treo 700w."

8O How badly do you want the Moto Q? Are you willing to shell out SIX THOUSAND for this RAZR-thin Windows Mobile Smartphone? I added one to my shopping cart, just for kicks. CTI NYC.com has the pre-release version of this highly anticipated BlackBerry killer. I don't think I will pay more than $600 for the final-fully-tested version, let alone this pre-release version. What are your thoughts? And oh, by the way, if you think Moto Q is not your style, they have the Pink RAZR also. ;-)

I wonder what they want for the pink RAZR. :rotfl:

I am thrilled there is going to be a CDMA version of the Q. I don't see that it will be much competition for the Treo 700w, nor the Treo much competition for this. They are going to serve different needs. If you just need email and other basic functionality, the Q is the device you want. If you want more, like Office functionality and more powerful third party apps, the Treo is the way to go.

Well put. :-) I agree. With this one Moto is going after the niche BlackBerry market.

Results would depend on the implementation of the Exchange push email system. Microsoft now has the ideal hardware form factor. I hope its software is as good as this form factor. :-)

I wonder if you get free shipping when you buy this? If I was dropping $6,000 on a cell phone, I would expect free shipping.

I think Moto is going to make sure they cover all the bases with this device. If RIM has a device that market, you can expect Moto to match it or exceed it. Go Moto Go! 8)

A good part of BlackBerry's success has been that in addition to MS Exchange, they support the rest of the big market plays (Lotus and Groupwise), so hopefully Moto will release the Q with BlackBerry Connect, ... otherwise they're limiting how much "killing" their "BlackBerry killer" can get away with.

Well, the Lotus market isn't what it once was. I wouldn't be overly concerned about this. The Exchange market is big enough to make a nice dent in RIMs market share.

FWIW, the stats on microsoft.com show that Domino/Notes is only about 10% behind Exchange in market share when it comes to actual mailboxes.

The Q definately could make a dent on BlackBerrys when it comes to Exchange, but that's only 1/3 of the market. If the software (BlackBerry Connect) to make the device more marketable is out there, I still think Moto would be short sighted not to release it.

(Can you tell I'm stuck using Domino/Notes at work? I hate it, but the job is perfect otehrwise, so ...)
