Default DVD to Mobile (Smartphone Edition) 1.0

http://www.smartphone.net/smartphonethoughts/software_detail.asp?id=724

"This software lets you convert a DVD to a Smartphone and watch it in great quality, with stereo sound and in full screen landscape mode. A memorycard as small as 128 Mb is sufficient to store a full length feature film. ...The software installs an encoding package on a PC with Windows XP, and a free player on the mobile phone. You insert a DVD in the drive of your PC and with only two clicks, the software turns it into a super small movie file, which will play on the provided mediaplayer."

The Pocket PC version of this application is very popular, so I'm not surprised that it has been ported to the Smartphone platform. You can download a trial version that will allow you to burn 5 minutes of a DVD or purchase the full version for $24.99 [Affiliate] here. A full list of supported phones can be found on the developers web site.

I've never used it, but my co-worker uses it all the time with his iPAQ, and the quaility looks pretty good. The screen is small, so the fine details would be very hard to see.

Pocket PC's tend to be more powerful than smart phones though.... which is the point I was trying (poorly) to make.

even on 120Mhz OMAP710 devices (E100,MPx200) the speed is very much acceptable. i recently got a MPx200 and i'am currently optimizing BetaPlayer for it's non XScale cpu. I can play a fullscreen xvid with little frame drops (24fps 192Kbit/s xvid + 22khz 32kbit mono mp3). the settings can be probably tweaked more.
