Default When Two Worlds Collide: Hello SD/USB Incarnation!

http://www.everythingusb.com/news/index/5929.htm

"Want SD? You got it! Want USB? Heck, you can have that too! Digimaster (Taiwan) have just released an SD/USB creation: one end inserts into your SD slot, the other end inserts into your USB slot (USB 2.0 compatibility). Something like this would work great on the Pocket PC, especially when you need to offload files to your PC on-the-go. It is available in two flavours - a 128MB one which retails for approximately US$27.00, and a 256MB one which retails for approximately US$39.00. Anybody interested?"

Darius Wey over at Pocket PC Thoughts is talking about SD-USB combo flash drive. I am not sure if I want a stub sticking out of the SD card slot. And not sure if I need this transfer tool, when I have Bluetooth and SD card readers. :? Also, it looks like they don't have a mini-SD version. So I will repeat the question asked by Darius, "Anybody Interested?"

As Darius mentioned in the forums, it's unlikely that the card will stick out, as the "main" part of the card is shorter.

If it doesn't stick out, that's prett darn handy. I don't have a card reader at work, so this would be awesome!

Indeed. I had a look at it, and it appears as though if there was to be a protrusion, it would only be ever so slight that it would be hardly anything to cause a worry.

Default I have to agree

Looking at an SD card at the same angle I don't believe this is any bigger from top to bottom - it looks like they trimmed it out - say like using a MiniSD with as USB connector on top - it would fit a normal SD slot fine (not a miniSD though). I am guessing that there is a small cap that goes over the back that fills it in to be the full dimensions from side to side and protects the USB pins. Again, just guessing there, but I think this is an AWESOME idea. It is annoying to have to carry a cruzer or USB2 adapter for an SD card in addition to the plethora of cheap thumb drives. Count me in for a couple of 1GB or 512MB ones!

Engadget has posted pictures of the SanDisk's version of this unique card...

I am pretty impressed. I think it is time to pull out the old MPx200 and give this card a try. Why..oh..why did the phone manufacturers have to switch to miniSD. :-(

Default Who's the original manufacturer

So is Sandisk just buying these SD/USB cards from Digimaster and then adding the little cap onto them before selling them under the Sandisk name?

If so, what's keeping Digimaster from doing the same?

Any idea on whether Digimaster or Sandisk might have patents for their innovation?

I think this will be a fairly big money maker. Its definitely on my buy list.

It seems both of them have a different design. The SanDisk has cooler flip open cover for the USB connector. Not sure if the Digimaster one has it or not.
