Samsung Introduces Optical Joystick on Mobile Phone

Users utilize the optical joystick key by placing their finger and moving a cursor to navigate through the menu, similar to a cursor of a mouse on a PC . Optical sensors will read and react to users' finger movement, thus breaking down the traditional four-way menu navigation and providing 360 degrees of freedom. Here's an interesting new feature from Samsung. I'm not sure if an optical sensor would be any good for the gamers out there, but it has to be better than having another phone with flaky joysticks. No word on when we'll see this technology in a Windows Mobile device. Here's hoping it's not that far off.

This would certainly solve the problem of small failing joysticks on Smartphones.
