HTC S710 (Vox) Official Specs and Photos Now Available on the HTC Web Site
"The HTC S710 smartphone is the most compact smartphone with semi auto-sliding full keyboard. It redefines the smartphone with its attractive and sleek design – yet it’s much more than just a phone! The S710 is a multi-functional device and is the first smartphone to use the new Windows Mobile® 6.0 Standard platform. The new Windows® platform builds on the previous version by enhancing business and enterprise tools, and providing a richer interface for better user experience."  HTC has updated its European Web site with the official specifications and hi-resolution photographs of its upcoming models: HTC S710 (Vox), HTC Advantage and HTC P3350. Not sure if this means that our European friends would get to play with this phone first? :? The HTC press photo library has been updated as well, check out the hi-resolution photos of their upcoming models. By now we know most of the specifications by heart but I noticed something that I hadn't noticed up until now, that the S710 will sport USB 2.0. I love the S710 form-factor and its feature set. The only complaint anyone would have against this device is the lack of 3G support.

No 3G is pretty significant, enough so that I won't buy a phone without it now. The only reason I haven't bought a Blackjack or Treo 750 is the possibility of a WM6 ROM for my S620 sometime in the relatively near future.
3G is one of those things that once you have it, you always have to have it!

I completely agree with you. I have a hard time seeing myself paying $500+ for a device in 2007 without 3G. Look at phones like the new W880i that's 9.4 mm thick and got 3G (HSDPA too I actually think). Without a doubt they could add 3G/HSDPA. It must surely be a marketing decision to leave it out.
Here's me hoping we soon hear some more on the HTC Wings and that its design will be just as nice  |

Wow.... That's the nicest picture I've seen of that device yet. It's actually starting to grow on me. These last couple weeks I've been using a Dash, and the lack of 3G is really getting to me. It's an OK device, but the Blackjack has it beat thanks to 3G.

HTC Wings I forget, is it a CDMA device or a 3G GSM device? Will have to look it up.
On the lack of 3G topic. I can agree with folks who are currently in the 3G areas and are enjoying 3G. For you folks it is tough to return to EDGE speed. But there are a lot of poor souls like me who are in the non-3G areas and will be for the next 6-12 months. :-( While the WM6 update for my Dash will help me pass thru a couple of months but if the Vox launches in the states, I would love to get my hands on it and go back to a phone first device; which is what I liked about Smartphones like 2125, 3125, SP3i etc. Now can have the best of both worlds - the QWERTY world from Dash and the phone like styling from the 2125/3125/SP3i. |

If you're in an area without 3G coverage I agree it doesn't make any difference if it has 3G - you actually get improved battery life
Here in Denmark the company 3 (Hutchison Whampoa) have a large part of the country covered with HSDPA already and there's a couple of others that have very decent 3G coverage as well, so it's kind of sad not taking advantage of that. Also, there's only one operator with EDGE, so you're stuck with that operator if you don't want to go all the way back to GPRS - and that's at $2.50 per MB... |

What surprises me is that HTC has posted the specs and photos on the European site but if I am not mistaken, Europe has pretty good 3G coverage. Correct? Why do they want to launch the phone over there instead of the States? :? Or maybe developing countries.

Maybe they are waiting on the operators to launch their branded versions in the States?
I don't know exactly how many, but I think there are at least a handful of countries in Europe where an operator won't brand and push HTC handsets, hence they have to sell it directly themselves. This includes Denmark, where TeliaSonera probably will offer it, but it will be with HTC branding and they aren't as committed as for instance Orange and T-Mobile are to pushing Windows Mobile.
That said, I have heard HTC isn't as much into 3G as e.g. Nokia seems to be. It's more about things like push-email the customer wants. At least that's what I've been told some rep from HTC said when asked why HTC P4350 hasn't got 3G.
