HTC Cavalier With 3G and QWERTY Cleared by the FCC
The HTC Cavalier is the upgrade to the HTC Excalibur a.k.a. T-Mobile Dash. Dopod launched this Windows Mobile 6 Standard smart phone in May as the Dopod C730. The Cavalier features faster 400MHz processor and supports the faster 3G data network. According to HTC the smart phone features Quad-band GSM/EDGE, Tri-band UMTS/HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, 400 MHz processor, 64MB of RAM, and 128MB of RAM.  The FCC documents minus the photographs and user guide can be found over here. HTC had requested confidentiality until June 12th, 2007, which is already up. Surprised that we haven't seen any announcements during this time-frame. Does this mean that HTC is not planning on releasing this in the States? Or is it waiting for AT&T to be done with the iPhone honeymoon? |

So is the Cavalier destined to be a T-Mobile product only? The thought of every possible radio in one device is very tempting to Cingular/AT&T users, even in the afterglow of iPhone.

Argh. The cavalier looks like a great device, but the on-again / off-again is getting annoying. Last I heard it was DOA and would never be available for retail purchase. :?

Excalibur replacement???
I really wish it was destined to replace the Dash/Excalibur. But with the absence of 1700 WCDMA, I don't see that happening with T-Mobile USA anytime soon. Correct me if I am wrong, but briefly looking at those FCC docs, I didn't see it.

When this phone was announced late last year, I was sure I would buy it as soon as it came out. Like Mike T said, I am now tired of its "on again, off again" status. Now, I might just wait for the Erato, especially if I decide I want a clamshell design.

I really wish HTC would do something new, like a better camera or more RAM/ROM space, etc. Anything that isn't just an updated version of the same phone that was released a few months prior  |

Traditionally AT&T didn't like Wi-Fi. But with iPhone they had no problem (though it is locked down and chances of customers using VoIP is remote, unlike WinMo devices), so it remains to be seen if they will welcome other WiFi devices on their network. |

I did see that FCC had cleared I believe 850/1900 WCDMA frequencies. Which is what AT&T uses. I didn't know about T-Mobile's frequency, I didn't even know they had 3G; that was until I read the Wikipedia article on UMTS.

T-Mobile does have license for 1750. This is such a mess. Why on earth do we have the multiple frequency mess of the regular GSM plaguing 3G networks. Why can't they standardize on one or two frequencies? Anyway that rant is for some other time. Bottom line Cavalier may not be viable option for T-Mobile. Hello, AT&T can you please this one up or the Vox 3G variant. Please! |

I am guessing HTC might be pushing it thru the retail channel.
I badly want to update my Dash to something newer, faster, cooler. :lol: AT&T please announce a WinMo device. |

The cavalier is a great device. Not that I like to gloat, but it's posts like this that make me so glad the Australian Telco industry is a bit more open, and for cheep Hong Kong exporters. Still it'd be great for this one to be released more widely, I'd love to be able to put a World Wide English rom on mine.
