The stealth serial BT port is a pain. The rumor is they made it that way at the last minute to make the phone "extra secure." They were worried about BT hackers getting into phones within range, so they effectively fire walled the port. Unfortunately they made it difficult to get legitimate things working.
Stealth port; extra security - That makes sense maybe from carrier and manufacturer's point of view, maybe...but wish Motorola had provided a screen to enable the profile or specify the port.
Lets hope future firmware update provides it. I don't think the latest Best Buy version has it. :-(
Another good thing is that the makers of ALK CoPilot Live have found a way to fix the navigation program to work around the MPx220 problem. :-)
Kris...I'm suprise at how little is being said about the bluetooth problem with headsets. I had a 220and most of the time, on my first call after start up, I would hear the caller but they could not hear me through the earpiece and would eventually hang up. The next and subsequent calls were OK. I have heard this mentioned in only one other review. I had the Moto 810 headset. Others say they have tried different brand headset with the same results.

Any comments on this problem?
I haven't exprienced this problem.
The only thing that I didn't like about the BT headset was the fact that when I get a call, and I flip open the HS810, it takes a little time to establish connection, and then you hear the beep that it is connected with the phone. Then you press the talk button (center of the earpiece) on the headset; by the time all this happens the call is switched to the voice mail. I had to turn on the BT headset on the first or second ring, otherwise would miss the call. This I am sure is the case with other phones too.
But everytime I got the call or I called someone, I could hear them and they could hear me.
The only quirk that I had to adapt to was that: If I am wearing the headset and it is paired with the phone. I get a call. And I flip the phone open or hit the accept soft key on the phone's keypad, then the phone's speaker and mic gets activated. I have to press the talk button (center of the headset earpiece) to accept the call on the headset. But this is by design I believe.
Kris... here is a quote from the review I was talking about along with the link. I have experienced these same problems. I do not have the 220 anymore. Has anyone else had these problems???
We have Bug sign. Repeat, we have bug sign. Sigh. I hope motorola fixes it up a bit. Here's what I found:
(a) When randomly using the car kit, headset and then handset, sometimes the phone would 'forget' it had a microphone. The caller would hear nothing at all. Swap to another bluetooth device or engage the built in (all too quiet) speakerphone and then turn it back off, and the microphone would come back. This is the most annoying bug on the phone. You have no idea that the microphone isn't working until you get callers going "HELLO? HELLO?" and hanging up on you. Luckily this is avoidable if you're good about not using multiple bluetooth devices at the same time and making sure only the one you want is turned on when the phone goes to seek it (like during an inbound call event).
(b) The bluetooth car kit is a grabby mo-fo. Even if you tell it to turn off completely, when the phone rings if it's in range it'll pick up and take over. The only thing that stops it is if you manually initiate a call from the HS810 headset so it's the active profile before a call comes in. I really can't recommend this car kit. :/
(c) When your battery is below 75% and your phone is idle more than 30 minutes it will arbitrarily turn the bluetooth radio off. However -- it will still leave the bluetooth icon on the title bar on! You have to go to the Settings/Bluetooth menu to see that no, it's really off... and manually turn int back on again so your devices can find it once more. If you keep the battery >75% this doesn't seem to happen. I suspect there's a 'battery saver' bug here; some programmer has it shut off or stutter the radio to save battery life and screwed up the code. This wouldn't be so bad if either it turned the radio back on when a call came in or you flipped it open -- or if nothing else, it told the truth and turned off the bluetooth logo on the titlebar when the bluetooth radio shut off.
Lucky me, I did not experience this problem. It would have driven me nuts.
Because of the earpiece volume and microphone problem on the handset, I have been using the BT headset for ALL my calls. Glad that I did not have any trouble with the BT headset. It was life saver for me.
Another thing is that I have only one BT headset. And no car kits. So that may have prevented this problem.
And as far as the handset microphone goes. That I have mentioned that the called party almost always had trouble listening to me. At times the they could hear me, but the volume would be low. And at other times the volume was super low or choppy.
Which brings up a point - Is the microphone problem with the handset or the BT headset :?:
BT headset microphone never gave me problem.
Handset microphone however was flaky. But the person could hear me (but the volume at the other end would be low).
First of all, thank you for this great review! This Phone becomes for me more and more a nice-to-have. But until now, it isn't available in germany with contract, so I have to be patient, until then maybe most of the bugs are resolved anyway.
Before the MPx220 takes is way to a german provider like O2, I will work with my beloved black beauty, the MPx200 ;-)
While looking at the pictures, I was wondering which dimensions the MPx220 battery has and if it possible to use it in a MPx200? At the first look they seem very similar...

The MPx220 battery is smaller than the MPx200 in length. Width and height are the same.
The battery could have been used inside the MPx200, but the pin out or the connectors are different. MPx200 has 4 pin outs, MPx220 has only 3.

I (finally) have some comments on this problem. I just ran into it on my replacement MPx220 with the .342 firmware. :-( So obviously it has not been fixed.
And I know exactly how to re-create it or when this problem happens. It seems that the Bluetooth module has trouble running multiple sessions. I had a Bluetooth Activesync session running and I got a call. I turned on the BT headset, as you described, I could hear but the person at the other end could not hear me. Then my BT headset lost connection. I tried to answer the call, dialed the number but again could not talk on the handset or the headset. That's when it struck me that the BT layer must have crashed (BT icon was visible, but it is not a true indicator of BT's On state). So I restarted the BT and things were back to normal.
