Turn Win XP to Mac OS X?

Yeah, there shouldn't be any lag or diff in speed because nothing extra is loaded. What is being loaded is just the modified files, which get loaded anyway.

Has anyone had any problem w/the RK Launcher? After installing the RK Launcher, I could launch any application but it would dissapear. It shows up in the dock but clicking on it does not make it appear (nor the Win XP task bar). But oh well, I think it is because it is FlyAKiteOSX version 2. If I can not find an immediate solution, I will wait for an update...

I figured out what the problem was... When I had FlyAKite installed, I selected the option to install Y'z Shadow that adds shadow effects to windows, menus, etc. I clicked on Y'z Shadow's option menu and under the Taskbar tab, there is checkbox for an option that automatically adjusts the position of the application (that launches) so that it does not overlap the taskbar. This option is just flawed, so I unchecked it and (I think...) it solved my problem.

It's not too easy on Windows, but any Linux distribution with KDE or GNOME can be made to look pretty much like OS X, with some effort. (But it's all free.) Check out http://gnome-look.org and http://kde-look.org for examples of how far eye candy can reach in Linux. Here is an example of the GNOME desktop environment (default in Ubuntu, Fedora, others...) made to look like Mac OS X.

The easiest way, however, would be to get a mac! No amount of skinning is going to give Windows (or any Linux DE) the elegance and functionality of OS X Tiger. Apple just updated the Mini line so that the $599 configuration now has more reasonable specs, like 512 ram standard, wifi + bluetooth built in, and a bigger hard drive. IMO it's worth the investment, especially if you already have the needed peripherals.[/url]

Wow...That linux option looks the best so far. Thanks for the input. It looks like I am still getting the dissapearing windows problem w/FlayAKiteOSX.

Two (free) apps you might need are gDesklets for Gnome or SuperKaramba for KDE. These let you load eye candy plugins like zooming docks onto your desktop. But for the most part, the native skin features of KDE or GNOME can go pretty far. Not all of the themes/plugins will work seamlessly with your particular distro/DE, so don't give up if a particular theme acts quirky or doesn't install. Browse the 'Popular' or 'Most Downloaded' lists of both sites to get ideas. Hopefully you won't end up making your KDE desktop look like this! 8)
