The plan you have will work. It is what I am using on my Tilt. AT&T wants you to upgrade to a higher priced plan with no differnt features, and they will do what they can to assure you that you need to, to get the full benefit.
My recommendation is to do your upgrade on-line at AT&Ts site. If you are eligible to upgrade, you select that option, select the device you want and watch the options provided very carefully. There is a a selection provided to upgrade the hardware with no change in plans. That's what I did this time and have done so in the past. You will ge the new phone delivered to your door and it will likely have a new SIM with it. That is to take advantage of the 3G features. There will be instructions to call a 1-800 number to activate the new SIM. They will get the IMEI number of the phone and I think the number off the SIM IIRC. They wiill have you turn off your old phone, and turn on your new one, so obvioulsy call from a landline, or another cell.
When this is all done, your old SIM will be inactive and your number will be associated with the new one. You should even be able to put that new SIM back in your 2125 if you needed to for something. Went through this a couple of months ago. Oh, and you'll be contracted with AT&T for another two years.
You can try going to an AT&T store, but be prepared to just say, no thank you, and leave if they won't do the new phone and leave your plan alone. Try another store if you want. I've found significant differences locally in how accomodating different individuals are. Wouldn't hurt to at least know where the nearest T-Mobile store is too.
