Default Swap WD Passport HD for laptop HD?

OK, so my laptop has a 160GB SATA internal HD, and I recently picked up a Western Digital Passport 250GB portable HD. I was browsing the WD site and checked out replacement laptop HDs, which made me think...

Is there probably any reason why I couldn't take the drive itself from inside the Passport casing and swap it for the HD inside the laptop, then put the old laptop HD into the Passport casing? Is there something about the drive that WD would put into the Passport that might prevent it from being useable as an internal drive in a laptop?

I'm sure someone here knows more about this than I do, so I'd welcome any thoughts and suggestions...
