Hotmail doesn't support PoP3. What the pay service does is allow you to use Outlook to retrive your Hotmail/http mail. Outlook (2002 and better) has an HTTP mail capability built in already, and until recently you were able to use that for free with your free account. The fee for using Outlook to access HotMail also bumps you up to a 2G mailbox.
What I'm saying is you cannot access HTTP mail, HotMail or any other, with a PoP3 client. There are a number methods in which you can get around this. One puts a sort of proxy in the middle, retrieving the Http mail for you from the server and delivering it to you PoP3. It's a translator of sorts. The other is to add an Http mail client to your PoP3 mail client. HttpMail does that for the PPC Inbox, though I have not tried it since Hotmail went to the fee system.
