Default Seem suspicious? TV and cable.

Well it seems kinda fishy but now I am stuck with a dead 44 inch TV. I had a problem with my cable lines 1 was unburried by a fence the second was being lifted up by a tree root AND has been powed over so it is exposed.

I have a bunch of TV's on this line and I called the cable guys to come out. While they were here my 44 inch TV died! Now the standby light blinks 6 times in sucession and then turns off for about 30 seconds then repeats. (Sony brand)

The tecnician said there is nothing they can do and that nothing they did caused it. Could them working on cable lines have somehow affected my TV? or was it just coincidence?

I'd go with coincidence. Unplug the thing overnight and try it in the morning. TVs are full of processors these days. Maybe it just locked up, and a night without juice could reset it.

Out of curiosity, is it a projection TV (possibly Grand Wega)?

I have one of their Grand Wega LCD Rear Projection TV's and the same thing happened. It turned out to be the projection light that had blown. I called Sony and explained the symptoms, and they sent a new bulb, no charge. They told me it would take 7 - 10 days, but it arrived the next afternoon.

Might be worth a quick phone call to Sony.

Yep its projection but nope its not a WEGA. I called best buy cause I have their PSP but its been a pain to look at this TV sitting in my room (4 days later and still sitting here waiting to be picked up).

On the upside I am only 25 days from getting all my money back and being able to get a larger TV. and if the repair time takes as long as the pickup then I know I am a shoe-in for the refund.

Oh yeah and Sven unplugging didn't do a thing unfortunatly

if you mean pay tv cable, then the chances of them killing your TV are pretty slim. But you'll find out when the service dept looks at your TV. If you got a surge that came in through the connector for your pay tv, then it's their fault.
But your decoder box would have died before the tv. Have you checked to see if it still works?

We don't use any decoder box believe it or not *gasp* we don't pay for any services above standard cable.

Its in the shop now 1 week later and no call back from the repair shop.

Funny thing is I am now having more caqble guys coming out due to a 1) faulty Cablemodem and 2) some "lines and bad reception" that is showing up on the other living TV's that were off at the time the initial guy came out.

Still seems a little fishy I have had not one problem with my home cable service then it explodes into all the things tv out, cablemodem fritzing, and now lines on other channels.

shrug

yeah, but they are the kinds of things you expect when you have trouble with cable, poor signal. In theory, there shouldn't be anything on a cable line that could damage equipment. I'll be interested to know what the fault on your TV is.

BTW, they tend to just fix it & send it back. you probably won't hear from them untill it's ready to pick up.
